What is Your Why HCTC Activity

As a new school year begins, the faculty and staff at HCTC gathered for a meaningful exercise designed to anchor their shared mission to our students: the 27-9-3 "What Is Your Why?" activity.

To provide the next generation of healthcare professionals with proper training so that they can provide quality competent patient care and succeed in their future healthcare career. To listen to the needs of students and help them understand their strenghts and weaknesses in order to engage and support them in reaching their goals.Help students with their future endeavors by teaching them real life experiences. Being authentic and relevant in everything I teach and having students be themselves, as well.To be a committed educator who fosters an environment for future healthcare professionals by helping them to be successful in the world and providing essential knowledge and abilities.

We asked our teachers to summarize their core dedication to education into a brief, impactful statement: 27 words or fewer, spoken in 9 seconds, covering 3 key topics. The goal is simple – precisely communicate why they step into the classroom every day.

Honest, Open, Willing is HOW it works! To introduce students to the world of carpentry while supporting them in any way necessary and preparing them for the entry level blue collar work force. To support students as they discover who they are and where they belong, while helping them build confidence and success in the workforce and their futures. To support all students academically, socially, and emotionally to reach their full potential by helping them work towards the goals they set for themselves.

The exercise gave us powerful reminders of the heart behind Career and Technical Education. Staff members shared personal statements focused on building student confidence, helping young adults discover their path in industry, and cultivating strong character. As one staff member expressed, their mission is "to empower students to believe in themselves, find their purpose within the industry, and lead with compassion for others and the world around them."
