THE VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT

We believe the arts are an essential part of every student’s education as it cultivates the intellect and emotions. They are often the means by which we learn about a civilization. The study of the arts fosters an understanding of the collaborative nature of these disciplines and involvement in these activities may be enjoyed for a lifetime. Through the arts students are taught self-discipline, creative thinking skills and critical problem solving. The arts reinforce self-esteem and discipline while developing reasoning abilities, intuition, imagination, dexterity, expression and communication skills.

The Visual and Performing Arts Department at Ellsworth High School offers a variety of opportunities in art, dance, drama and music through a wide array of curricular and co-curricular offerings. Art course offerings include painting, ceramics, digital art, sculpture, jewelry making, and AP art. Music courses include American Popular Music, Guitar, Advanced Vocal, and Piano. Curricular and Co-Curricular ensembles available to students include Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, Jazz Choir, Jazz Band, Show Choir, Jazz Combo, and Pep Band. In addition to theatre classes students may also participate in the Fall Musical, Drama Club, and One Act Productions.
