SCIENCE - NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Section I:  Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought. It is to advance the students’ knowledge of classical and modern science, to communicate with the scientific community, and to aid the civic community with its comprehension of science. It is to encourage students to participate in community service and, in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all mankind.

Section II:  Membership

Membership is awarded and maintained based on the following requirements. 

  • Spring enrollment; Sophomore or Junior - Fall enrollment; Junior or Senior

  • have an overall GPA of at least a 90 and a science GPA of at least an 86.

  • have completed/in progress one honors (or higher) STEM based course prior to applying.

  • enrolled in one honors (or higher) STEM based course their Junior or Senior year.

    • Sophomore Applicants - Junior Year

    • Junior Applicants - Senior Year

  • enrolled in one STEM based course each year in the honor society.

  • participate in the yearly community service project.

  • upholds standards of excellences, academic honesty, and is respectful of their peers and community.

 A selection board will review all applicants and complete a yearly review of current members.  New membership occurs during the Fall & Spring of each school year.  Transfer students have the opportunity to apply at their enrollment.

Section III: Code of Conduct

Members are to maintain proper code of conduct.  Students are required to follow all guidelines presented in the Student Handbook.  

  • All members will adhere to the Ellsworth High School Honors Society Code of Conduct.

  • Behavioral Suspensions can result in removal or suspension from the chapter.  The selection board will review any incidents to make a determination.

  • Academic ineligibility can result in removal or suspension from the chapter.  The selection board will review any incidents to make a determination.

Section IV:  Officers

All active members can vote or hold an office position.  The follow positions will be help each school year: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations.

Section V: National Chapter

The Ellsworth High School is a recognized chapter by the National Board of Directors.  Our organization upholds and follows the guidelines of the National Constitution and By-Laws.
