Cybersecurity is a new program at HCTC that can be taken as a one or two year program and is open to any students entering grades 10-12 in the fall of 2021. Cybersecurity, also known as computer security or information technology security, is the study of the tools and systems used to monitor, mitigate, and prevent online threats. Cybersecurity professionals use innovative technology to combat hackers, cyberterrorists, network outages, and other technical problems that could compromise network security. The program covers a wide array of topics including an introduction to computer science, programming fundamentals, networking concepts, malware, and information, cloud and network security. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to sit for industry recognized certification exams and will include hands-on experiences.

Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing job markets, growing 12 times faster than all other jobs. Employment opportunities: computer systems analyst; network and computer systems admin; information systems manager or analyst; programmer; security specialist; security analyst; incident responder; and vulnerability assessor.
