Connor Petros wins Newspaper and Press Association First Place Award

Connor Petros, a Media Communications second year student, was awarded a 2015 New England Better Newspaper Competition Award of First Place in News Video from his work as an intern at The Ellsworth American in 2015. The New England Newspaper & Press Association (NENPA) recognized Connor for excellence among his professional peers for his video on the
“Historic Replica of the Hermione Visits Castine” video published on July 15, 2015. The video is described as capturing  “cannons firing, a French flag flying and an enraptured audience on shore, the Hermione made its way into Castine Tuesday, which was France’s Bastille Day”. The judges comments included, “This was good local reporting supported by video. The video was also of good quality. This was the winner because in addition to the actual ship, they brought in brief interviews to expand the story as well as being interactive, making this piece more than just a moving picture”. Awarding Connor with his certificate are Tim Suellentrop, Visual Designer and Cyndi Wood, New Media Editor, both of the Ellsworth American. Congratulations to Connor!
